just to clear up any confusion that may come from your comment above, the 1176 output transformers from my last run are not made by altran. the 1176 input transformers that went with them were, however. i have bought many transformers from altran, both for myself and purple audio. their other pro audio clients include OSA, hamptone, UA, chandler, shadow hills, and i'm sure many others. but audio is not their primary market. altran sells over $1M/year in power transformers to medical and industrial markets. so audio is a nice side market for them. dave and steve are very friendly guys, and they will absolutely do whatever they can to get the job done; i've had generally good experiences with them over the last several years. the c-3402 is a decent input transformer. not as shiny as a jensen or modern cinemag, but less colored than an oep. i used it backwards as a 4:1 line input on the odd eq. they also make the c-4124 which is a good 10k bridging input transformer. the c-2870 bifilar output transformer is a low nickel core - this is the same transformer used in the hamptone jfet and sear console. a simple design, but it works well. their c-4000 is what a few companies use as a "neve" output. same general idea as an LO1166, but not exactly the same. ed
